  • Imperial Bowl VII Thread w/spoilers!

Since no one is on here to discuss the game, I'll just say good game Jester. That big play by Romano goes to show that I was right in my adjustment yesterday. One of the few times he's not doubled, he take it to the house. Even with being double covered the majority of the game, he still made the critical plays when you needed them.

After having a great season, Booher nearly cost us the game. How in the world do you hit 87% of your FGs during the season, and miss a chipshot 37 yarder in possibly your last game?

Hickman is a stud. Even with no running game to speak of from our starter, he picked up yards on the ground as well as through the air. We moved the ball much better than I thought we would, and each time we did, it was Hickman completing a big pass. He's not going to put up gaudy stats, but the guy just wins. He has as many 4th quarter comebacks as many older QBs.

Still, for everything that we did on offense, the defense is what really won this game for us. Take away that one play by Romano and we were able to keep Stansfield in check for the most part. My initial gameplan was to defend the run on 1st and then drop into coverage later. Still even with that, I scaled back the run d aggression because I was afraid of them going over the top on me.

Incidentally, I think our coach actually had a some great play calls at the end of the game. The fact that we actually milked the clock rather than just rushing to get the TD and then leaving Stanfield and co. plenty of time to march down the field we only left him about 45 seconds to drive for the win.

Hartford stuck with the run and Jamison produced very Eddie George like grinding numbers, controlling the clock and ending the game late with a TD run. No runs over 8 yards for Jamison and he should have been MVP IMO.

I don't know, he did help us control the clock, but whenever a play needed to be made, Hickman's name appeared.

congrats go to Warhammer. You stopped a beast today. I really didn't think Lawrenc could/would lose. I told Jester last night that I thought he'd put up 37pts. I've been wrong before, but I was really wrong. Your defense was great, and you seem to get some pressure on Stanfield. You controlled the clock on offense, keeping the ball away from the Lawrence O. Glover was neutralized.

Great game guys. It was a doozie.

Now we get to hurry up and wait for the conversion.

I was actually pretty concerned about his WRs. I kept looking and looking and then realized, that I have good DBs for what I do. I figured that Seifert and Frausto could double Romano and I would take my chances on Alsup with Glover. Aside from Romano's big play, we kept their entire offense in check.

I've been toying with the idea of using a QBs read defense against them for a while, and its worked relatively well down the stretch this year. This was the first game where I used it to an extreme like I did, but I'll take the results. Also, having your 3 top CBs with an 80+ in your defensive pass coverage helps too...

I really thought this would be a higher scoring game, but I think that is a credit to both defenses. Granted, if anything I came out of the game surprised we only put up 19 seeing how we moved the ball. But, they forced us to settle for 4 FGAs and we only made 2.

                Ouch. Cry. Disheartened. Shock.

Great game, Warhammer! Congratulations on being the next Champion GM!

I can't believe how bad you made Stanfield look. Embarrassing.

Hickman was definitely the one responsible for most of the bad plays (from my perspective).

It ended up being a solid game - other than the fluke missed short FG - as we figured. The better team kicked my ass. I gotta figure out what direction to go in the offseason now.

                  Warhammer ...

A well deserved victory. You have had a great season and made all the changes to bring you to this point -- starting with that damn head coach change. I am still most upset with that addition.

I know that we have fed off of each other's successes & have made adjustments relative to the other & that just makes each of us stronger. Tag, I'm now it and it is my turn to figurue out the new dimensions that raises the GOD DIVISION (as Jeff has coined us) to a higher level and of course with me back on top again.

But we both have some bumps in the road ... the conversion and its impact will be #1 hurdle, the addition of the likes of Kozure is #2, and finally at #3, Boston still continues to develop and they are young and should not be impacted by 2007 that much.

But enough of tomorrow. Enjoy the day .. you earned it ... and as the Smith/Barney commercial says .. "you did it the hard way, you earned it."

                  Next year, die!

I wouldn't blow that team up. You have a great team there. I truly think the big change I made that was the difference was double teaming Romano. I think that forced Stanfield to check down more than he would have wanted to and caused the completion % to go down. Glover is a great deep threat, but by putting my top DB on him, I think that limited his effectiveness. I'm one of the few teams that has options 1 and 1A at CB and I think that hurt you quite a bit.

If you want to look at it another way, we both did what we normally do. I ran, you passed. I was able to pass a little better than you were able to run and that was the difference in the game.

EDIT: Great game and great season by the way Jester!

                      Jester ...

A tribute to you, too ... I have admired how you have painstakingly developed that montster in that other conference called the Plantoms.

Depending on the BS that might happen in the 2007 conversion, you have a great nucleus to find youself in the same position next year ... congrats on a great season .. you are one of the elite GMs in this league and that is amongst some very good company, in both conferences. To be in the Imperial Bowl in this league is an accomplishment and honor in itself. Loving your style ... imp: and contribution to a great league.

Or you could look at it as you passed better than I passed and ran better than I ran and scored better than I scored.

Unfortunately, I think I am going to be impacted by FOF2k7 more than you guys. I'm losing two key starters in Tan and Flemming, both of which are potential Hall of Famers. Tan will affect us slightly less than Flemming, but he is still a big loss. Flemming I have no idea how I am going to replace. But, other than that, we should be largely intact and should be able to compete for a WC. My other fear is that my secondary is really set up for 2k4, not 2k7. So it will be interesting to see how that changes.

Still, its nice to see that a division that has brought home 3 championships is finally getting its due. Also, for the record we went 3-1 against the AC South swept the AC East. We beat five teams with 11 wins or more, one of them twice and one of them 3 times. Out of our 16 wins that's half of our wins coming against 11+ win teams.
