  • Export File Problem!

    Cringer,

I sent in an export file yesterday franchising my RT Don Webb. But as I look at the current files, he is listed as a free agent! What went wrong??

So far, my first export file (1st coach hire phase) was ok.

Please check asap, I don't want to have to fight for my top OL man...

    Thomas

Not much I can do for you right now. Just have to wait to see what Cringer says.

your export is the upload directory right now, but was not there earlier.

when did you send it in? what time?
My banner is bigger and prettier and cooler then yours. I choose not to show it so your feelings do not get hurt.

It was Monday, at around 1:30 pm my time, or 6:30 am CT.

Ok, i know what the problem is, and it has happened before. It is something I have tried to avoid since the last time it happened early in season 1, but unfortunetly it seems it has happened again.

Your export did not show up on the list when I got the files today. When I get them I always hit refresh 3-4 times to prevent this and I did it this time. But it seems yours still did not show up until tonight. I do not know exactly why it did it, but I apologize for the problem.

We can not go back and correct this at this point, but we will try to make it up to you. Probably by making it so only you can sign Webb, but I will talk it over with sovstar and maybe get some of the other owners thoughts.

Well, it's not that bad. If I sign him to a 1yr, 6 million contract and he has no other options, I will be in almost the same situation.

Are the files stored on an ftp server? Maybe if you try another client software? This problem seems very odd to me.

I'm not certain that it's necessary for you to sign him two a one-year deal. I'm assuming that you would've signed him to a long-term deal (and cheaper deal) after he was franchised, no? This may need a little more discussing.

I find this problem extremely odd. Like Render mentioned to me, the files are listed alphabetically, so it would've been squeezed in between all the rest of them. I don't know. But if we're at the point where exports can be left behind, then our system is just as bad as e-mailing exports. I'm not sure what we need to do unfortunately.

Correct. I would have tried for a long term deal. You can negotiate with a franchise player, or not? I'm not so sure, I seldom used one before.

I don't think the upload routine is the problem. I tried to upload it twice to see what happens and it said the file was already there. I think it's the client. Usually you don't have to hit refresh more than once to get all the files.

Yes, you can sign extensions with franchised players. I plan on doing that with my cornerback Brockway.

Funny, I can't get into ftp.imperialfl.us with CoreFTP 50% of the time and then this happens with the program that Cringer uses, WS_FTP.

I already decided last night to use a different ftp program from now on. I too have the feeing this might be atleast part of the problem if not all of it. I do not think it is the upload script itself.

I also do not feel we need to limit the signing of Webb to only one year. If you had gotten Webb tagged, then you would have tried to sign him long term. And as is the norm with these things, you usually would have resigned the guy for less $$ the first year or two then the actual franchise tag amount. So I see NO PROBLEM with letting you sign him to any lenght of contract you wish.

Other owners can still put their 2 cents in if they want to, I will listen to what guys have to say about this. But hopefully everyone agrees this is the fairest way to handle this.

Also, my first move to try and make sure this does not happen is I have stopped using the ftp client I was using. I think I will go with FileZilla. Many good things are said about it from what I see. I have already installed it and might actually like this more then WS_FTP.

I will also test the upload page, as I have already done some so far. Between my testing of it before I made the switch of having it uploaded to the imperialfl.us site, and the fact that this is the same script that was used all of season 1, gives me confidence that this is not a common mishap, and it is NOT the problem here.

I will stress that I am not also saying that the ftp client is the problem, but I do think that may be part of it along with just simple error on my part.

                            Damn, I am having deja'vu.

Anyways, I do not like guys getting screwed over. And this is more then just messing up things for Thomas, since guys may have tried to sign Webb and they might have to redo their export. Thankfully only a few are in so far, and hopefully everyone reads the email I sent out and this thread. This league is fun for me, and I want it to be fun for everyone else. I want more then that, I would like everyone to consider this their top FOF MP league that they are in.

I think that is fair enough. Believe me, I know what it is like to run a league (non-computer based game leagues) and have little stuff like this popping up. You've been doing a great job, and I think since this was caught early enough in the cycle that it will not be a problem for anyone.
