Long story - somewhat shortened ...Originally posted by SuicaneOh, and this interest me. Is R00k short for Rookie or is it based upon the chess piece of the same name? Or is it something else.
I use to coach grade school chess. Acutally, the team became a state power house. The grade school team (about 50 kids - Kindergarten through 8th) became very well known in the metro New Orleans area. The team also competed nationally every year. By the way, grade school chess has four divisions (Kindergarten; 1st through 3rd; 4-6; and 7-9th). My team usually won the state and placed many times in the top 10 natonally. The school has a trophy case full of shiny hardware. One year, the kindergartners won the National Championship.
My favorite memory was standing off a tense Dad of a very good athelete who thought this was sissy shit. I had the pleasure of giving him the litany of pro athletes who are very versed players. I also presenting him a New Jersey state study which noted that chess, as a recognized subject in Russia for gradeschoolers, is noted as a contributor to a shit load of mental and psychological skills if taught in the first years of schooling. That kid became one of my best players and turned out to be a star athelete to boot. (By the way New Jersey has allowed chess to be recognized a a valid course in 1st and second grades).
My son was the reason I got into this. When he was a second grader, he actually won the 2nd place honor as an unranked player at the nationals in Knoxville (about 10,000 participants).
Even though I encourage the utililty of all the pieces (the same philosphy which I try to gameplan in FOF), I particulary liked the rook ... especially in the end game for the real young kids. It becomes a monster in their end game.
With that belabored prolong ... I have since moved from chess to sports sim games (or any other strategy type games - Civilization etc.). So when I needed a nickname for the first time in a multi-player league, I selected rook for its double meaning (the chess piece and my status as a newbie in a Fantasy Baseball Manager league). Merging the two, I added the double zeros for a sports reference. No specific player for that, just a number. Other league mates have rumored that it was my preference for a good set of hooters. I didn't deny that and the name has stuck ever since.

Uh... My name is Warhammer, I use it because when I played Battletech as a kid, it was the first mech I played as well as my favorite. When I needed an online nick, I figured I used it, and it was better than Beaker Gonzales.

I'm going to Buffalo to watch my Bills get run over by LT2.
It's gonna be cold.
Good luck tomorrow Orlando. I need this win very badly. I could actually use a little help from Vermont too. Please
