  • New constitution needs blessing

As previously mentioned, there wasn't anything added that I'd consider earth-shattering. Look it over and ask questions, voice concerns, make suggestions, or caress it with sweet tender love.

Learn it. Love it. Do it. 8)

Someone has previously mentioned to me that they like being able to have conditional draft picks in trades, ie Dick McBustanut for a 2nd if team's pick is in the bottom half of the round order or a 3rd if the team's pick is in the top half of the round order.

If we were to allow them, we'd need to:

      a) Determine limitations
      b) Figure out an easy way to keep track of them

I just added one example up above. Frankly, I think "conditional" opens up a huge can of worms and have never really been found of any sort of them.

ahhhhh. i'm not fond of these types of deals. more work for the commish's (even if there's two of them here) to keep track of.

Keeping track is easy, just sticky them when they appear. They'd only occur between drafts, so it's not like they'd stack up. I like the idea because it gives you more control over your team and isn't crazy difficult to implement.

I like the conditional draft picks. Maybe create one sticky thread. When any trade that has been processed and contains a conditional deal then it must be reposted in the stickied thread as well.

                Constitution looks good.

I had a conditional draft pick deal with Houston once, and it worked out fine. We determined that it was my job to let everyone know if the conditions were met and I got a better pick, or if the pick was attempted to be traded away, not the commish's.

So no limit on the conditions? If Campbell's Soup stops production of Chicken Corn Chowder, then Pittsburgh gets a 2nd round pick, otherwise a 3rd round pick.

I would say it's impossible to limit beforehand every possible condition. How about every condition needs to be approved by the commishes before the trade goes through?

Can we get a clearer rule on this one? I thought we had specifics set up where each year of a contract could only be so much of a % of the year before to avoid backloading.

I can maybe live with that. Not sure how Suicane would feel though (Ping: Suicane).

This is the closest thing in our current rules:

                            G. Player contracts must be negotiated in a fair and realistic manner. This means no contracts may be signed that are extremely backloaded or use the minimum salary bug. With the recent updates these hopefully no longer are a problem, but this also covers any, still unknown exploitations. Penalties will include reworking of the players contracts, loss of players, or removal of that owner from the league. If you come across any new way of 'cheating the system' please inform the rest of the league, and pass the info onto Solecismic Software.
So it's really just there to prevent anything blatently explicit from going down. We've never had any hard rules on contracts, though we did have a tiny bit of discussion about such a thing this last offseason.

Also in regards to conditional pick trades, keep in mind that you have to be able to meet both conditions. If you send a conditional 2nd/3rd, you have to have both the 2nd and 3rd by the time the conditions have to be met. If you didn't, I'd likely figure out equal compensation AND penalize you somehow.
