  • Question on draft picking rules

Regarding the rule where if a GM has no list set up and a mod is to pick from him based on his three in game needs: What if said GM already filled those three needs in the current draft but since we don't actually sign the players (and "refresh" the ingame needs) until after the draft they are still listed as his three needs?

My team from this off-season would be a great example. With a 65+ potential rated player drafted at each of my three need positions it's obvious that they are no longer really needs (barring a post-draft bust by one of my draftees). Would the mods have just selected another DE, OG or ILB for me?

I realize this might never happen but figure we'd want a contingency plan in place ahead of time if there isn't already.

I think Suicane's contingency plan involves taking the best tackle available. :P

Seriously though, best player available should probably be taken from then on. Clearer rules probably should be spelled out before next draft.

honestly, I think I would draft by in game needs. At the end of the day, those are the rules. Everyone knows the consequences of a missed pick. You make that choice when you don't use the utility. It is very easy to set your utility to select the best available "insert position here".

If dems da rules den I agree witcha!

However I pose this question with the idea of expanding the rules (I like Jeff's suggestion better than picking from an outdated needs list) so at the end of the day... dems might not be da rules.

There's also a rule where a team that misses a pick has a shorter time limit in the future and we don't follow that one...

Im like this. I don't think the mods should have to do extra work (however small that might be) to further help teams that arn't using the utility (not that that makes them bad people

Same thing with knocking the hour off. If the utility doesnt do it automaticly im not gonna sit here and keep track of who has what limit.

By the time you fill all three needs, in most cases it's probably the 4th round anyway (and this is the time that most people start missing their pick) and it's just a crapshoot there anyway. In fact, at that point in the draft, the "best player available" according to the game is usually a crappy QB that nobody wants, so making it "best player available" doesn't really help.

The goal isn't to help. The goal is to get the draft moving along without much thought or subjectivism.
