  • site updates, maybe...maybe not.

Yeah yeah, I know it wouldn't be unusual for me to not update stuff. But I have been trying hard to force myself back into the groove of things lately.

I will try to get some site updates tomorrow for the front page. College section will have to wait until the weekend.

I got home at about 2 pm yesterday, because I was driving solo last week. I love it, but the shit can kill me. I slept for about 4-5 hours before I finished my drive home last night and that was the most sleep I got all week. Last night I went to sleep at 2 am I think, and woke up at noon today. That was nice.

Just to blab about my week (I love the challenge this shit can be sometimes)...

Woke up Wednesday morning at about 9 am, after 5 hours of sleep. I worked out (lift and jog), then found out I would leave for work about 6pm. I go to where myload is supposed to be, but the trailer isn't there. Very common for the load to be a little late crossing the border. After 4 hours of sitting there waiting, I find out my dispatch sent me to the wrong pickup spot. Dumbasses, now I have lost 4 hours which I could have used for nap time later on......

So at about 11 pm I have my load, truck weighed, trailer axles moved, and I am rolling north for southern Illinois. Drive until about 4:30 am, stop for a half an hour nap. Get up and go again to finish my time. Backup in Dallas, and a small detour adds about an hour and a half. Stop in Taxarkana, AR to sleep. Adjusting for time lost and all that shit (although not as much as I could have) I give myself about 6 hours to sleep. Wake up after 5 because I have to piss and just stay up.

Get going again about 7 pm Thursday night I think it was, stop in West Memphis for fuel. Since I am solo I take a detour through Memphis just for the fun of it, then head up to Illinois. Get there and am wide awake, so trying to take a nap is pointless. Sit there for just a little bit until the Whirlpool warehouse opens up, and get unloaded. Then I head up a little closer to St. Louis, where I get screwed at the shipper.

I was picking up a load to Laredo. I got there about 8 am. Small town, small facility for this place too, no open docks because of one guy getting unloaded already and two dropped trailers. The woman in shipping is real nice, says she is trying to get someone to come pickup one of te dropped trailers and to grab the first dock that opens. Another truck comes in a little after I do. Then the garbage guy comes, and is moving around dumpsters and compactors, makng things even worse in there.

Finally at a little after noon I am able to back into a dock. The lady says it's going to be a while when I ask her, so I say I am going to lay down for a nap. My plan had been to get loaded, drive my last 2 hours and get some good sleep. But that had been at 8-9 am too, so now I am screwed somewhat. I lay down, wake up just under 3 hours later. I am almost done getting loaded, so I wait.

I leave there about 4pm. I have to go through St. Louis (company headquarters) so I swing by our terminal so I can take dump.

Once I am done with that, I sit there and take a look at my log book to see my situation. I notice that I had so much lost time with the circus at the shippers, combined with a couple minor things, that I actually can 'adjust' my log book and put in a full driving period. Woohoo, I can drive another 9-10 hours if I want. So I do it of course.

I could have made it down to the Texas-Oklahoma border, but stop a couple hours short. Slept on an on-ramp above McAlester, OK. When I stopped a little early it was because it was about 2 am and I was tired, didn't want to push myself too hard. I lay down and can't sleep though. Play a little WSM thinking it would help me relax and fall asleep about 5 am finally.

Wake up before 9 am! DOH. I had to shit, there was no going back to sleep for me. So I get up, do a little work out, clean up, and drive into McAlester to shit. From there I take my time, stopping to get something to eat in Atoka, OK. Then after two backups in Dallas I make it to south of town and fuel up. (This is when I decided I wouldn't make it home in time for the games). I am tired, not fallling asleep kind of tired, just don't want to move tired. Keep going, and an hour later in Hillsboro, TX I stop again.

You see, I needed a pick-me-up. So I wanted some Subway cookies. Bastards were out of peanut butter though. So I just grab my 32 oz. cup of half coke/half coffee, and drive on. Stop for a half hour nap around Austin. Stop again in San Antonio for more coke/coffee mix, this time a 44 oz. That gets me down to Laredo. Pass out, wake up after 5 hours, take care of getting rid of my load and head home.

I love the shit, but I think I would kill myself if I drove solo all the time. I just can't resist pushing my log book as much as I can, especially now because the rules now make itharder then it was a couple years ago.

That was long and pointless. I should move this too off-topic but screw it. I mentioned something about updates at the top. :P

I considered that a fun week. A little rough sleep wise, but mostly I pay for it days later like now.
