  • Pour one out for...

Cut day is the hardest day of the year. Old draft picks are sent packing, aging role players are shown the door. Anyone sad to see anyone go? I have two:

cornerback Mac Breland - I think we spent a third or fourth round pick on him, but he just didn't pan out in our defense. He performed so poorly against other teams' #2 receiver that he was on the bench by the end of the season. My chemistry being better with Deville ready to lead the secondary sealed it. It's a shame, Breland was a good player once.

SLB Ryan Hastings - Ryan will forever be remembered for his lone sack that occured in the closing minutes of the third quarter against Lansing last year in weed 17 that turned the game around:

3-06-LAN21 (01:00) LAN 14 Terrell sacked by PIT 54 Hastings for a loss of 13 yards.
Sack allowed by LAN 65 Wahl.
The ensuing punt gave us field position on the 42 and an easy FG drive to take the lead for good, 17-14.

    Godspeed boys, godspeed.

I agree completly that the cut to 53 is by far the hardest. Its kinda like the draft in reverse - that is on draft day everybody thinks their team is better but on cut day it is hard not to think that the team is worse.

Mules only had a couple of really difficult decisions. In the end a couple of UFAs were placed on IR to give the Mule FO time to sort out the WR situation.

In all honesty this year was one of the easier years for me so far (Including other leagues). The players that where cut where part of the mix we picked up after the draft.

MLB Fuchs was a hard choice but made easier by the conflicts that the team had with him.

I had to cut one guy, a 5 year veteran who was a backup LB. I drafted a rookie at the position who is cheaper and has the potential to be better.

No cap space makes cut day easy since you go in with only 54-58 players

Mac was a great player for us. Its a shame to see such a promising career sidetracked by an injury that really didn't seem that serious at the time.
