Bobbi Dallis here with my Blitz Report. I'm going to pick the game to watch this week AND give you the game INSIDE the game. Ready?
This week's pick? Reno at SLC. How in the hell are the Stallions 8-point underdogs in their own crib despite sporting the 2nd-ranked rushing offense in the IFL? How about a -6 turnover ratio and a run defense that gets gashed more than Lil' Kim.
While Salt Lake City has managed a 9-6 record, this is not a playoff team. Why do I say this? Playoff teams don't allow Oakland to play them close or let the Bad-news Bolts post a 17-point 4th quarter on them. This team is playing WAY PAST it's ability and it all hinges on the undisputed superback of the IFL, James Tart. Don't believe me, just ask him. What he WON'T tell you is this; he's got a fumble problem and his fumbles in the loss to Burlington cost the Stallions a chance at the title and a first round bye.
Insiders say Tart is fired up about it and promised his team mates that he'd do everything to make amends for it this weekend and playoffs IF they get in.
Tart may boast a bit but he backs it up and I think Reno will have a hard time containing an inspired Tart. That's IF Reno even shows up to play.
If I'm calling the shots in Reno, I'm resting my starters for the final march to the promised land. Good thing is that Reno is solid enough to plug in some backups and still beat the fumbling Stallions 24-14. The stats say otherwise but I'm not buying Salt Lake's pass defense. I think they are so easy to run on teams don't pass to beat them.
I look for Reno to strike deep early and take Tart out of the game. Remember how Cleveland put SLC in the hole in the first quarter? Salt Lake City handed the game over to Booker and lost. Reno's Leslie Steiner should post his best passing game of the season here. I mean, who can rush the passer on the Stallions roster? None of their ends will and Hassler likely will not start.
If Reno gets up early, Booker will give Summers two more picks to go with the 4 he has on the season and send the Stallions home for the postseason. Thanks for participating Salt Lake, now go home while the rest of the league plays big-boy ball.
This won't be an upset. Reno wins big 24-10.
