I'm not sure if it's the only time, but I remember that one of the things in training camp can help (don't remember the exact part). Also, intelligent quarterbacks will obviously learn more formations. There are probably other factors, but I'm not completely sure (maybe mentors would help).

Would probably be a good question to pose at FOFC tomorrow morning.

The only thing I have ever known to increase the formations you QB knows is in training camp, the exact one being Film Study. If there is another way I have not heard yet and would like to know as well.

I always just assumed that as a QB matured he learned new positions. Of course i have nothing to back that up, but my theory on breast smothering being a way to improve your math skills also has no factual backing.

Definitely during film study, but I cannot remember if mentors help.

Two things....

1) I also only know of the TC method which has always led me to wonder (since a QB can only learn whole number amounts of plays) if there is "wasted time" spent on QB's learning formations such as...

QB A and QB B both know 10 formations...

QB A gets 3 hours of TC time...
QB B gets 2 hours of TC time...

After TC QB A now knows 13 formations and QB B knows 13 formations... Did QB A's "extra hour" go to waste or is it stored somewhere for future seasons?
