Ogres Land New Starting Center: Abraham Ussery Joins the Trenches
ussery.jpg
The Horsetooth Ogres took a major step in rebuilding their offensive line, signing veteran center Abraham Ussery to become the new anchor of the unit.
Ussery, a fifth-year pro out of Texas Tech, brings toughness, smarts, and steady communication—traits the Ogres have been missing inside. Known for his reliability and command of protections, he’s expected to step in immediately as the starting center and help stabilize an offense built around young talent like Buddy Lane and Rodney Ingram.
To clear the spot, Horsetooth released long-time center Freddie Barth after 10 seasons. His departure creates $2.64M in dead cap next year, but the team views it as a small price to upgrade one of its most important positions.
Fans welcomed the move, calling Ussery “the first true leader in the middle” the team has had in years.
The Ogres are clearly committed to rebuilding from the inside out—and Ussery is the new foundation piece in the heart of the line.Last edited by rgvicedo; 11-22-2025, 11:12 AM.Rick Vicedo

Ogres Continue Trench Rebuild, Sign LT Leland Kucharski
kucharski.jpg
The Horsetooth Ogres added another key piece to their offensive line makeover today, signing left tackle Leland Kucharski to a two-year deal worth $2.49M per season. The move further solidifies an Ogres front that has already seen major investment this offseason.
Kucharski, a fourth-year pro out of Penn State, brings size, pedigree, and upside at 6'3", 296 pounds with experience holding down the edge in a Power Five program. Known for his athletic frame and natural footwork, he projects as a swing tackle with starting potential—likely competing for snaps on the left side while providing much-needed depth at both tackle spots.
Team officials praised his toughness and versatility, noting that he fits the philosophy shift toward younger, moldable linemen who can grow with the Ogres’ developing offense.
“Protecting our quarterback and opening lanes for our young backs requires depth and competition,” a team source said. “Leland brings both.”
The signing continues Horsetooth’s clear offseason strategy: rebuild the offensive line from the ground up. With Abraham Ussery added at center earlier this week and more moves expected before the draft, the Ogres are quietly building what could become their strongest trench group in years.
Fans on the league forum reacted positively, calling it a “smart, low-cost add” and “exactly the kind of depth piece contenders always seem to have.”
The Ogres aren’t there yet—but with moves like this, they’re taking meaningful steps.

Ogres Add Pass-Rush Juice, Sign DE Mike McCoy
mccoy.jpg
The Horsetooth Ogres dipped back into free agency to bolster their defensive front, signing young edge rusher Mike McCoy to a team-friendly deal as the club continues rounding out its roster ahead of the draft.
McCoy, a 2nd-year defensive end out of Illinois, flashed real potential last season with 6.5 sacks, 17 tackles, and 9 QB hurries for HAR despite making only six starts. His snap-to-impact ratio caught the attention of multiple teams, but Horsetooth moved quickly to add a developmental pass rusher with upside.
At 6'0", 275 pounds, McCoy brings a compact, leverage-based style—quick off the ball, disruptive in tight spaces, and capable of finishing when he gets home. The Ogres view him as an immediate rotational fit with the potential to push for more snaps if he continues progressing.
Team officials noted his high energy and knack for creating pressure late in downs, two traits the defense badly needed after struggling to collapse the pocket last season.
The signing also fits the Ogres’ ongoing theme this offseason: add hungry players entering their prime years, not fading veterans.
Fans reacted with enthusiasm, pointing out that McCoy produced more sacks last year than any Ogres lineman. Many labeled him a “sneaky good add” and a “low-cost mover who could outplay his contract.”
With McCoy joining the fold, Horsetooth adds fresh juice to its pass-rush rotation—another quiet but meaningful step toward building a defense capable of finishing drives.
