  • Nickname Appreciation List

Just for fun I put together my incredibly subjective list of favorite nicknames in the league as of the offseason (active players only). Feel free to disagree or correct any incorrect credit given, or pipe in with your own favorites:

    Top 15 Nicknames
    1. DT T.J. "Luv N An Elevator" Arrowsmith (Houston)
    2. RT Eric "The Grill" Foreman (IWC)
    3. P Kendrick "Burping" Belcher (Calgary) + K Tristan "Babbling" Brooks (Calgary) - combo specialist entry
    4. DE Ed "Too Tall" Dotson (BOS) - he is s a legit 6'7"
    5. S D.J. "Jazzy" Kozak (LVS, credit to Vancouver)
    6. TE Pat "Judge Mills" Lane (TUL)
    7. LB Bert "Trench" Cote (Georgia)
    8. WR Corey "COBOL" Coder (IWC)
    9. TE Damien "The Blue Ribbon" Kau (Alaska, credit to Vancouver)
    10. TE Jermaine "Big" Pappalardo (POR) - works on two levels
    11. LB Demetrius "Wolfschlegelstein" Schneggenburger" (NEW)
    12. G Juan "Pancake" McQuilken (POR, credit to Madison)
    13. DT Alfredo "Mee-sa" Dar Dar (LVS) - maybe too easy a nickname
    14. RB Marcos "One Cut" Wright (LAN) - low speed, no elusiveness, decent hole rec and power, it checks out
    15. G Dennis "Mister" Burns (MTL)

    Honorable Mentions
DE Philip "Paper" Bagley (Calgary, credit to Vancouver)
    CB Alfredo "Pasta" Banks (TUL)
    RB Mack "Carlton" Banks (VAN)
TE Luis "Bundt Cake" Bunting (LVS)
DT Ellis "Zoom Zoom" Zumdahl (VAN)
    WR Ed "Motel" Bates (VAN)
LB Frankie "Rotten" Apel (Calgary) - would be top-5 if he was a red flag
QB Mack "Mr. Boh" Bohman (Calgary) - simple, random, weird, but it works

I appreciate everyone's nicknames and they add some flavor to every recap I watch on my favorite network, Solevision (TM).

Sabean, great stuff, thanks for doing this!

I take pride in the fact that it looks like I've got as many or more on the list than others (hey, if you can't win titles, at least try to excel in something). But Vancouver would be right up there had it not been for some trades, including one, as you highlighted, to us (which is the main reason I wanted Bagley!), so great job Bylanta.

Sabean, thanks for putting together the list!!!

Probably only very OLD information tech guys like me know what a COBOL Coder is. COBOL was an English-like software development language from the 1970s and 1980s.

lol, I highly doubt you can beat Don and me in the age category. Slide rules were just being phased out when I did my IT and math college course work.

              15. would be funnier if it was "major" Burns, but maybe its a generational thing.

              RIP Larry Linville.

A great nickname in this rookie class would be Sammy "In The Fast" Lane. A safety with 4.36 speed is outstanding.

Mr. Boh is of course the advertising symbol for this long-established beer brand. Just think of the endorsement possibilities for Bohman!

Also, the next Banks to enter the league needs to get the nickname "Robs".

Oh maaaan. Just blew my mind, I'm on the west coast, and while I'm aware of Natural Bohemian, aka Natty Boh, but did not put that together at all. Mr. Boh just got a promotion into the top 5.
