Julian Cartagena, QB, Columbia Fire


Cartagena is glad to be back in this spot for a second time this year. He helped the Fire bounce back from their loss last week with a huge game against the Ogres. Though only completing 24 of 42 passes, he did so for 380 yards and 5 TD's (tying an IFL record). He had no INT's as the Fire win 35-10.

There were so many great performances by so many great players, must we just talk every single week............ about how awsome Cartagena is every single week............espically when he throws the ball more then a BYU quarterback on crack? What gives????????

Other players that you might make an arguement for are McMurray, Hynes, Flynn. Cartagena's main competition though was his own WR, Whitaker, because of his 4 TD receptions (a record).

5 TD passes, and the fact that it tied the single game record for TD passes, was te deciding factor in my mind. I do not think there is one other guy who you could say clearly had a better day.

I have to note my dissent with with the choice as well. Everyone knows that he is going to pass the ball a million times a game, and a good chunk of his yardage and two TD's this week came during mop-up time after the game was already decided. He was still going deep downfield up by 18 with 3 minutes left.

Hynes on the other hand was 23-29, 292 yards with 3 TD's, and clutch in OT in the biggest game of the week.

I definately consider any of my players to be offensive player of the week. Sure, I had an off-week.. but the team was out partying and some of them were really offensive..
