  • Gameplanning

This is my first MP FOF league, so I am wondering how many people gameplan and to what extent. Are you convinced it makes a big difference?

I don't think you can tell too much from gameplanning in solo play because you can build a team that is far superior to the AI and win with or without a good gameplan.

I am not looking for anyone's secrets to gameplanning, but I am wondering if everyone here does it and to what extent they find it helpful.

    Thanks.

Many guys will gameplan every game, especially their defense because that depends on what the other team likes to do.

You can find a decent amount of guys who will just put in a gameplan that they made, and stick with it for just about every game though. So opinions will very. If you talk to guys and follow their teams, as obviously I have being the commish, you can see that some guys over gameplan IMO. They try coming up with something so different to catch someone off guard that it can completely backfire.

In the end, I think there i a fine line to it. Try to get players to fit your style, or make a style that works for your players and run with it. If you start to over do some things it can hurt you I think, because some of us may notice that kind of thing. I.E. Cleveland, they have a dead set style, but everyone kind of sees that and gameplans against it, and they are not as strong as they were in season 1.

I think I may have contradicted myself in here a couple times, i don't know....

    :?
My banner is bigger and prettier and cooler then yours. I choose not to show it so your feelings do not get hurt.

Gameplanning is very important. However, the first step to decide on a style. This is what you want to do. Then from that style, you tweak the offense and defense to fit your opponent for that week.

To begin with, you probably want to decide on a style that will fit the players you have, however, you can begin to acquire players that fit the style that you want to play.

You need to be careful when you change some things in the gameplan, because some items are linked. For example, passing zones and offensive formations are linked together (in other words, don't go for a downfield passing attack from the goalline formation!).

Also, Cringer makes a good point, don't try to outthink yourself. Sometimes if you run the ball up the gut well, just run the ball up the gut.

Oh yeah, you can have a team with so-so stats that can contend if you have a good game plan.

UUGGHHH, if your comming straight from single player, be very patient! It takes a LONG time to learn to gameplan effectively. But you have to stick with it because if just use "recommend" for your gameplan, you will get owned!
Warhammers post was perfect, just stick to it, and you will develop a style that will fit your team.

Another thing, it is easier to see immediate results in your game planning with your defense. However, I think time spent on your offense is ultimately more rewarding, its just very difficult to accurately gauge how good your improvements are.

Yeah, my gameplanning is really weak actually - which I like to blame on a greater familiarity with canadian football - so I actually tend to just use recommend and focus more on player selection.

Last year was my first season of MP FOF, and I tried to gameplan right away and got rocked pretty bad. Towards the end of the season I just did default plans and actually won a few (which hurt my draft status but thats ok

This year I did more reading on how gameplanning works, so I understand it a little better. I did it in week 1, and while my offense wasn't great, they did what I wanted for the most part, and the defense did ok too. Now if I can figure out a way to stop my punt returner from fumbling i'll be ok

I was really against it until I did a few tests in the preseason and seen it did a few things I was looking to do, so i'm going to try it for the first few weeks to see how it goes.

We'll see who's 5-9 by the time you play him and play us again.

I thought I had a good running football team last year -- almost the same personnel that made my run game work over the past two season bites Ass in 2k7
