  • The 70 man roster limit rule.

It is in the Rule Book you know? Has been for many moons now.

Says that you can not have over 70 players on your roster during the offseason. What it does not say is what happens if you go over it. I am here to tell you now what will go into effect AFTER tomorrows stage is run.

If you have over 70 players on your roster I (or sovstar if he runs a sim) will cut players from your roster to get you under the 70 man limit. We will cut the player last signed according to the log in the game. This will be done until you are at or under 70.

If you have this happen again within the same offseason, you will lose a 4th round pick in the next draft. Don't have a 4th round pick, you lose a 3rd round pick, and so on and so on.

I will be adding this to the Rules...

Do you think it would be possible to give people a sim's leeway? Like for example, give them one sim to cut the players they want to get back under the limit. As you know, in a competive league like this there can be a lot of competition for rookie FA's, so you often can put out a number of offers that could get rejected, but then again they may all sign, so you could end up with a range of 65 to 75 on your team.

Of course, it's not a game-changing thing and offering a couple less contracts probably won't effect anyone's teams, but I do (like a couple others) feel like a kid in a candy store with rookie FA's and feel it adds to my enjoyment of the offseason.

I am not high on that, because guys will take advantage of it too much. 70 guys on a roster is a pretty frickin' high number to me, so I think it should be pretty easy to stay under that amount.

So in essence tomorrow is a free-for-all? Guys can sign as many players as they want and not be punished even though there has been a rule in place for a looooong time now?

No, it is not. And Kobeck, as I have told him already, will not be allowed to go over the 70 limit. I will take care of it depending on what happens. He has choosen to not submit a new export I guess, even though he thinks he may go over 70 players.

It's not too horrible, but it lends itself to possible problems. As for cutting guys, what if there is a tie for potential? What if a guy like the Grizzlies Mac Breland lost a lot more potential than he did and he ends up being a 15/20 guy with all that bonus; can we just cut him like that?

Why not just undo the signings in the order that they were signed according to the transactions log, cutting the guys that put the team over 70+?

NFL teams bring at least 80 to camp

Actually, the way they do it in the NFL, during camp the top 51 salaries are counted towards the cap, then every one is free up to 80 (which is almost like ours), but then everything over 80 is counted. So you can bring more than 80 if you have the cap room.

But it's not a big deal, I can live with 70.

I am incapable of submitting a new export. I worked on mine today. Picked up the kids and got them to my wife and drove into work for my 12 hour shift, 14 with commute. Will be home tomorrow morning at 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning. I usually get some sleep till 1:30 or so. Well after typing this maybe I can put in a new export with nothing but withdrawn offers, should not take too much time hopefully. I will try.

My problem with that was because what if that happened in early free agency, say around day 5 or 6. The team has been involved in several trades, maybe signed a bunch of scrubs, and the lands a fairly high priced guy that puts him over 70.

Or it could happen in late FA too, if a decent gu gets cut and guys try to sign him then.

As far as guys being tied at potential, flip a coin or cut the guy with the lowest current then.

If he is a high priced guy, we can skip over him I guess.

This can be worked on and edited some, I am fine with doing that.

New Late FA Export sent - Crisis Averted

Actually not as dire as I thought. Was at 64 not 66, I was counting the two unsigned rookies. Would still been at risk of going over 70 as I made half a dozen or so offers in the unused export plus the 2-3 left over offers could have put Mules over 70. BUT it is no longer an issue as even if all draftees sign, and I made no offers, and all outstanding rookie FA's accept still would put Mules at 69.

Thanks for making me aware, AGAIN, of the roster limit.
