We were hit with a severe case of fumbilitis in this one and came out the wrong side of a 16-7 loss. The run game has been much better the last few weeks but we are still suffering from inconsistency. Good luck rest of the way

GG. You shut my offense down, but those 6 fumbles will always cost you.

        Little Rock - 22 | 14 - Norfolk

A Good game in the sense it was a classic defensive battle. It was a bad game in that all of the big mistakes wee made by one team (3INTs/1 Safety).
Little Rock: 6 (3 and out*) Norfolk: 8 (3 and outs*)

The tough three day game stretched ended today with a win over a good Norfolk team. We went 2-1 in the stretch.
Despite the score line, it was a tough defensive game. The difference is three INTs by us with a safety. The defense scored 9 points all by themselves. One of the INTs prevented what could had been a FG or TD in the first half. We didn't have any sacks, but we had 1 block, 5 hurries, and one knockdown. The DBs had a great game defending 10 passes and picking off another three. Edwards really struggled in the game, but did enough. We gave up 7 sacks which killed our drives. Our running game was also stifled. his one goes to the defense.

One oddity... I had the ball late with 2:29 to go on the Norfolk's 29 yard line and I elected to "punt?" What? we were up 22- 7 at the time and the FG would had definitely put the game out of reach. I can't find where i can control that. It was within the range of my FGs that you can specify. I know teams will opt to not kick a field goal if they do not want to give up a block or big play. However, it would had been better to run, as that would had burn up more time. It was a 4th and 6, so make- able. In any event, I think most 12 years can angle it out of bounds.... but it was a touchback. All around bad play.

Good luck to Norfolk. Hopefully we can have another go at it ;-)

There are no easy games in professional sports; however, three games at home should help us be a little bit more successful. Next up, Dakota, then Columbia, and ending with division rivals and anticipated rematch, Tulsa.

        * Included drives of less than 3 downs. Did not include drives that ended the halfs

          GG Boss,

Congrats on your victory. Whalen had a great game while Hillery threw 3 INTs. We still hold the #1 seed in the AFC but have a tough road game vs. Murfreesboro next week.

I'd be interested in learning what your FG distance setting is.

Maximum FG Distance, Normal Situation: 48
Maximum FG Diustance, End of a Half: 54

I can see if it was under 2:00 minutes the system would read a possible run or kneel down. However, that would only make sense on 1-3 downs, not fourth unless it was under 30 sec. The game does seem to know when it is appropriate to kneel down. This is must be some kind of a bug.

I do go into "clock draining offense" if leading with 4 minutes to go. I can see punting in a long FG situation, but LoS was the 29.

I don't think it is as obvious a call as you make it out to be. I went to an NFL win probability calculator for some rough numbers:

Punt, Touchback: 0.64% chance of loss
Punt, Ball downed at 10: 0.37
Punt, Ball downed at 3: 0.29
                Missed FG: 1.29
Made FG, followed by TB: 0.24

A FG of that distance is about a 75% chance, or 3 out of 4. So, attempting a FG = (0.24*3+1.29)/4 = 0.50% chance of losing. The punt at worst would be 0.37% (well, at worst it is blocked, but a FG can be blocked as well). These are just rough numbers, but it looks like the coach made a defensible decision. Maybe going for it would be even better though, I don't have the time to analyze it!

There are statistics that show it is better to go for it on fourth down every single time, but people still do not do it. (well, there is at least one coach who does. He is fairly successful coaching at the high school level).
I personally have never been a "slave" to statistics or probabilities. Stats only show you what had already happened and probabilities are unpredictable. If you play this game long enough, you know what that means.
This may be one of those things it would be nice to have greater control, but at some point, you have to add some value to the head coach independent decision making. In the end, i would had kicked the FG, because that;s what my gut tells me and i will do that regardless of the probabilities and especially what the stats say.

BTW, +1 rep for digging out these stats.
