  • IFL Community "Chat" Thread

    Ok, let's get this rolling.

In light of recent events, it would be nice to have more activity. Sometimes, you may have a thought, but it isn't thread starting material. Or, maybe, you do, but you throw it in the game update thread. When the game is updated again, it is lost in time. This thread is design specifically to increase activity, improve relations, and just plain fun.

In the event a discussion does get some activity, we can always break it off and continue the discussion in its own thread. In the meantime, this thread should help build a community. If people see how much fun we are having, then they would want to join our league.

    So there you have it.

Memory plays a funny trick on you. I decided to listen to "football music" while rummaging though the draft pool and the first song I wanted to hear was the iconic Monday Night Football Tune. I discovered that wasn't the original tune. Monday nights was the only night where I always managed to do my homework and eat my dinner before kickoff. I know some people do not like Cosell, but he is Mr MNF for me. He is way better than the current crop of play by play men.

=== Monday Night Football; 20th Anniversary Special ===

Another odd tidbit. My father finally broke down to by a VCR. It was a beta, because, "it was the best." Anyway, learning how to recall, I decided to play the end of the NFC championship game between the Niners and Cowboys. Yes, I actually recorded and watch on a VCR the famous "The catch." NO, I do not have it. At the time, no one really thought much of it.

Nice! I know Bylanta (owner of the Vancouver Whales) has been known to rock NFL Films music while doing virtual front office work.

Techno Bob is too good to be true. Usually the players with the best names have been god awful and he looks like a legit starter.
          Owner since 2034
          League's Worst Record: 2036, 2045, 2046
          2057, 2061 IFL Champions
2060 - Undefeated regular season, then lost in 1st playoff game
Two QBs drafted #1 overall, then traded to others who made them into stars

2045 Legend of the Game inductee Jay Keith (started 10 games for us)

Agreed. I used to commish the now defunct eNFL. There were a couple of marginal players with fun names: Crime Dogs Hicks and Ike Pigg. Pigg was on my team for a couple of years. I finally cut him because he could not bring home the bacon.

Apparently, my good intention to be emphatic was not appreciated and was met with hostility.
                My apologies.

I deleted my trade post and started over because of the comments on there. I also deleted because after looking at my reply, I wanted to remove it.

I appreciate the reply that you made about trying to have casual conversations... But challenging peoples values in open form can sometimes be viewed as unnecessary... We all value our players differently... You want to get the best player for the lowest cost possible, while others want to get the best offer they can for any player. That does not mean my value of my players is right and yours is wrong. But when its done in public forums it comes off that your trying to impact someones ability to trade players with other owners.

You have every right to disagree with peoples values, and believe me or not I value peoples opinion on here. Had we been talking trade or even in private message... I would have not had a single issues with stuff you said (which is another reason why I deleted my initial thread).

Trading here is hard enough, we have limited players who are active enough to trade with... and trust me I think some peoples value systems are way off... and yes I have said stuff to players via PM to discuss offers. I just chose to move on after talking to them if I felt they were overpriced.

I have no issues working with ya or anything and I will apologize again for my previous reply.

I should had chosen a different venue for the discussion. It was my mistake. Live and learn.
More to your point. I wasn't making any judgement. I was curious as to your perspective.
                    Good Luck.

ps,.. I am not easily offended. Forums is a form of communication that has limitations. Miscommunication are common.

                        Just a side bar observation.
I noticed USFL would routinely get members logging on in the 20 range on a daily basis.
IFL, on the other hand, generally has 2-4 members online, but generally the same members. Incidentally, it is generally the same people on USFL forum. Also, guest generally outnumber members at any given time I have been on the forum.

My apologies for taking the whole two hours for my 6th round pick. I was asleep when my pick came up. I meant to set it to auto pick on my iPAD, but apparently it didn't register.

It looks like the draft went quicker, but this may be due to more open GMs than rate in which we made our choices.

On a curious note: Has any group ever tried to do "LIVE" drafts? I know logistically, trying to get 32 people to be online and willing to commits a few hours, but it would be interesting to try. It may actually encourage more trading. I noticed in the other league, there was more trading, but in that case, there was more time per pick on average and almost every team had an owner.

Just a thought... There was a couple of times I would had liked to move back in the draft, but felt like it wasn't likely to happen.

Leagues can't even get all their owners to show up at some point during a multiple-day draft. How would they at a certain time/day?

The draft always speeds up the further along it is. Pick times are shorter, and teams lose a percentage of their time by missing picks. Thus, we finish days ahead of time despite the complaints.

As for draft trading, there are a lot of factors. Owners, state of the teams, and players in the draft are some of them.

I kind of like the idea of live drafting sort of like fantasy football..ofcourse all teams would have to be committed on the Date and time but if they were it would be amazing IMO and fun. The draft would end that day as well.
