  • Preseason report: Linebackers

Last years circus act, better known for their blooper highlights, are soon to be this years feared linebacker corps. Returning completely intact, are linebackers Bradford McCrary, Ken Allmon, Burl Nickels, and Brian Minard. The teams defense has moved to a 3-4 this year, and any team who thinks the weak D-line will mean open season for running backs, think again!

    SILB Bradford McCrary

Starting 13 games last year, McCrary underachieved, only registering 55 tackles and no sacks. He is back this year, and ready for a new season. Teamed with the surrounding talent of his teammates, Bradford will excel in this years gameplan, and is signed long term.

    WILB Ken Allmon

The team leader in tackles, racking up 92 in only 13 games last year, Allmon is the teams leader on defense. Awalys in the right place at the right time, Allmon returns for another season ready for the challenge.

    SLB Burl Nickles

One of the most dominant linebackers in the entire league, Nickles was injured for most of last year, and returns with something to prove. Burl has the vision of a truly great linebacker, can see the entire field, and seems to read a play before it happens. Given a season without injuries, its scary to think of the impact he can have on this Oakland defense.

    WLB Brian Minard

Injured for part of the year, like most of the Oakland linebackers, Minard had a subpar year, only totaling 57 tackles, Brian is back this year, remotivated, and ready for the long haul. Resigning this year through 2008, Minard will be here no matter the number of wins or losses. With players like him, Oakland has a serious linebacker corps to content with this year.
