Now that the smoke has cleared, the tale can be told.
Much as I love the progress that he has been making, QB 'Wile E." Cote seems to have had a brain cramp and forgotten one of the few formations he knew in the first place. To make matters worse, training camp showed us that QB 'Favre' Givens seems to have broken down a little bit. So much for him earning his extension bonus.
The nice surprise of the camp was TE Archie Lake. Yes, TE Archie Lake. This bludgeoning Fullback seems to have made a successful transition to TE, playing in training camp at a 1st round level. Not bad for a 2nd round pick. I wish I had the genius to say that I had this all planned, but that would be a blatant lie...
Despite being a little light in the ass, 1st round pick OG Hatcher seems to be the real deal, and our 'expert REX analyzer' even has him listed as a starter on the depth chart... higher than the Vet who seemingly has better skills. There must be something special about this kid.
Our 'secondary' draft picks, S 'Maestro' Maestas and CB J.R. Middleton seem to have some decent skills. I doubt either one is bound for Canton, but they seem to be better than expected based on their draft status.
3rd round pick RB Lionel Emerson does not look as consistent as we had hoped, but certainly possesses an extra gear and seems like he could take one the distance at any point. Considering where we took him and the role we chose him for, I doubt we will be disappointed. He should be a nice change up to #4.
If Archie Lake continues to impress at TE, the OG plays like we hope, and the S and CB add some much needed depth to the secondary, this draft class could go down as an unglamorous but necessary draft for the long term future of the F-Birds
