"First off Warhammer beat me" said a beleaguered Jester Blaze from his home in Lawrence (which I had to knock a secret knock on a window through a ripped open screen to gain access to.) "I think when you're defeated on a big stage, or anytime really, you're faced with choosing excuses and 'what ifs' or accepting the reality and hopefully learning from it."
What went wrong?
"Hindsight is easy. Looking back we were young, brash, spectacular... and just not ready. There are things we decided well ahead of time (as far back as pre-season) to do in certain situations and then when the emotions hit instead of 'sticking to our guns' as we would have hoped we realized that we didn't plan 100% correctly and had to choose between 'this' and 'that'. We chose wrong and the veteran team chose right."
What would you...
"But now we've been there. We might not know all there is no know but we do know a few things about the Imperial Bowl that will help us going forward. We realize how important it is to capitalize on the slim Bowl chances, if ever lucky enough to get one, and how much we've failed... both ourselves, our division, and conference but we don't anticipate falling off the map anytime soon. If anything I pride myself on seeing the big picture and not trying to make any given season more important than it should be at the expense of another. We've slowly improved here in Lawrence and don't believe that we've peaked. Next season we'll return stronger and roll the die again!"
You've got a high 1st round pick coming up via the Louisiana trade. What are your intentions with this pick?
"The same as with every pick: to get good value. I'm not very emotional at all - barring the occasional "Leash" falling inexplicably down the draft - and I think that helps both me and other GM's, which makes me an atractive trading partner. I have full faith in making the best choice if forced to select a player but also only ask a 'little more' than what the pick's theoretically worth for someone else to jump up. Since emotions are usually in play during draft day trades and emotions are said to be the spice of life I think the price is a fair one; one that I have paid and will pay again, perhaps in this draft."
Uhhh... yeah... so about that 1st round pick?
"Yeah, well... it was nice of you to come by Spark."
(at this point the interview stopped and the real dope began - pun intended)
