Oakland Press, Oakland, Ca
In what was more of a warmup for Oakland then the real deal, the Assassins wore down the Whales untill they broke, in what turned out to be a rather easy 28-11 victory for Oakland.
Hamilton was nearly perfect, throwing for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns on 21-26 passing, amassing a staggering 145 rating. Bice and Martinez stole the show in this one, only showing up for the big plays, trotting onto the field, scoring, and then sitting back down. Martinez caught a mere 2 passing for 13 yards. Oh yea, both of them were touchdowns. Bice, true to his word, was to much for the Vancover backfield, catching 4 passes for 90 yards and 2 scores. This one was over quick as Oakland build a 21-3 lead, and easily cruised to a 28-11 victory. This was never a game, however, it gave the new Assassins a chance to work on the different plays and formations that Oakland employs.
We did notice a huge difference this year, from last. The players and coaches seemed much more relaxed, confident, almost a swager, during this game. Last year, players were hurrying around, rushing to get plays in, running to the line of scrimmage.........This year, Hamilton was strolling up to the line, Martinez and Bice were laughing in the huddle.....
It's hard to explain, but they seemed to just know, they were going to win. They lost the Imperial Bowl, yes. But this year, their attitude and exacuation has the ring of a champion.
It was just one game, but so far, we here in Oakland like what we see for the future. More this week when we talk to Bice about week 2, and Wichita.

Gallup smells blood in the forth quarter, further prompting the fans to get louder!!
