From the desk of Nicky Blackburn
Head Scout of the Newark Bulldogs

    2004 Draft

    Round 1 pk 9
    Wayne Ostrowski RG
    32 starts
    33/128 KRB
    11 sacks allowed Sack % 1.2
Ostrowski had a huge setback this past offseason. Prior to that he was on pace to be one of the most prolific guards in the Imperial league. He was drafted in the "guard class of '04" with the likes of Cuomo, Anderson, Doser, and PHios among others. opening holes for Crespo looked to be a lock for years to come. This past offseason, Ostrowski joined a herbal food community and lost 100lbs dropping down to 185lbs. He has been reported to have put some weight back on, but how much has this caused his skills to diminish.

    Round 2 pk 6
    Malcolm Singleton LG
    27 Starts
    42/152 KRB
    11 sacks allowed Sack % 1.4
Singleton was drafted to start opposite Ostrowski on,what at the time was, a weak offensive line. Singleton has been solid since being inserted into the starting lineup. Singleton has developed into a better player than this years first rnd pick.

    Round 3 pk 7
    Joseph Yeager C
    1 start
    1/3 KRB
    2 sacks allowed Sack % 10
In keeping with Oline improvements, Yeager was drafted by the Bulldogs in hopes of hime being a dominant C. Yeager never turned out like the Bulldogs had hoped. He spent all of 2004 on injured reserve before being cut by the Bulldogs mid-week during the '05 season. Yeager's only start was for the Portland Seals in '05.

    Round 4 pk 7
    Teddy Franz SE
    14 starts
    77 targets
    33 catches for 576yds
    3 TD
Franz was drafted as a 3rd WR. At the time WR Mikel Hutson was coming off of a torn Abducter muscle. Franz stepped into the starting lineup, but was often in-effective in that role. In '05 Franz played the role of the slot reciever, and he somewhat flourished. Franz has a nice 17.4 YPC. He has dropped off some, as more work is being invested into the teams other younger receivers.

    Round 5 pk 8
    Jon Arnold FB
    15 Starts
    141 rushes for 489yds
    5 catches on 12 targets for 34yds
    10/21 KRB
    19 special team tackles
Arnold saw himself being inserted into the starting lineup during his rookie campaign. The struggling offense used Arnolds consistency to try and stay competitive. In '05, Arnold took over the starting FB job from All pro FB Eddie Jasper. He did not do as good of job as the Bulldogs would've liked in the run blocking, however we're not ready to give up on him just yet

    Round 6 pk 9
    James Hicks RT
    0 starts
    0 GP
Hicks was drafted under the impression that he would help out on the OL. He simply didn't pan out and is now retired currently selling insurance for Geico.

    Round 7 pk 9
    "insert player name here"
He was a punter turned kicker who plays in the CFL somewhere.

    Draft Grade for 2004 D

Overall our draft was not very good. Our goal was to get a great O line and set the stage for a power running game. only 1 of the 4 offensive linemen drafted have panned out thus far. Franz has been decent, but not gamebreaking material. Arnold will be the starter at FB for the next few years, until he shows he's great or the next FB comes along.

We will continue our review with info from 2005 and our latest draft in 2006
