The Horsetooth Ogres wasted no time attacking their biggest weakness.
Fresh off an 11–5 breakthrough season, Horsetooth dealt their 4.20 pick to the San Antonio Storm for running back Donnie Kane, a 6-foot, 221-pound bruiser brought in with one clear mission: revive a struggling ground game.
The urgency is obvious. Despite their win total, the Ogres averaged just 77.9 rushing yards per game last season and managed only 3.38 yards per carry, one of the league’s least efficient rushing attacks. It worked — barely — but the front office knew the formula needed fixing.
Kane offers a ready-made solution. Over five seasons in San Antonio, the former third-round pick has rushed for 3,605 yards at 4.49 per carry, including an 1342-yard campaign in 2072. Built to run through contact with strong vision and ball security, Kane profiles as the kind of finisher Horsetooth lacked a year ago.
This won’t be the last move.
League sources expect the Ogres to double down in the draft, with a run-blocking guard high on their board as they rebuild the interior of the offensive line in front of their new back.
The cost was modest — a small price for a fix the Ogres could no longer afford to ignore
But the intent was unmistakable.
The Ogres proved they can win.
Now they’re making sure they can run when it matters.
