James "Sweet" Tart Delivers Again
By Jimmy Somelove
Normally, if you don't win the time of possession battle, you lose. Moreover, if you trail your opponent in rushing yards and manage to convert only 36% of your third downs, you lose. Normally if you don't...you get the picture. All this holds true IF you don't have James Tart in the backfield.
Tart again put this team on his shoulders and dropped off 126 total yards and 2 key TD runs, the last one late in the game as Montreal tried to mount the comeback.
"He's something special", smiled Booker at the post-game press conference. "I think he's a little upset about the Mid Year All IFL snub. When this offense needs a play, he's gone out there and gotten it for us---how can the IFL sports writers not recognize that this kid is perhaps the best back in the league?", added Booker.
Booker is right. Tart has been consistent every week and always seems to come through when the team needs him most---that's what separates him from the others.
But football IS a team sport and right now, what team is playing better as a unit than these Stallions? They were the model of discipline, committing only 6 penalties (30 yards) while the home crowd rattled Montreal for 12 penalties (112 yards). And the defense recovered nicely after giving up a 94-yard touchdown run (IFL record) on Montreal's second posession. Hassler rallied his squad to toughen up and led by example with 13 tackles (understudy, Hare added 12 and 5 assists).
C Oglesby, fully recovered from his knee injury, turned in a monster game turning in 6 key run blocks and once again we had a Grady "Money" Gomez sighting. "Money" caught 7 passes for 70 yards (longest 24) and was Booker's goto guy all day.
So here comes the question again: Can this team make the playoffs? You better believe it!!! The Stallions don't dominate you, they just beat you.
