I have never heard this before during training camp. Here is a bit of inside info:
Ho-Lee-Sheeit! Today's practice (for an OTA) was perhaps the best practice I have seen in the almost 7 years I have been covering the team! We had it all; chirping from the COACHES, fights, amazing catches, some good ole defensive line penetration, and some sweet timing by the QB's!
As before, I will go in order as how things transpired in practice.
For the record. DHB DID NOT DROP A SINGLE PASS TODAY! And my favorite coach thus far is Hue Jackson. No wonder why the players like him so much.
- At the VERY beginning of offensive vs. defensive team drills, Offensive Coordinator Hue Jackson was RIPPING into his offensive unit! "Hurry up and huddle! Get into the damn huddle!...Coaches, get your guys movin'...let's go!" I mean, he was vehemently serious in his tone and demeanor. He made things very clear that he was running the show on offense right off the bat!
- Darrius Heyward-Bey and Jason Campbell proved to be a potent combination today and seemingly unstopable by ANY defender! Their first play was on a RB flea flicker back to Jason Campbell, (which fooled the defense), who then threw a deep pass to a wide open DHB. It was a sure handed all-hands catch.
- RB Michael Bush continued to run very hard and was finding holes in which to run through for big yardage as he's been doing all offseason workout long.
- After that run, things began to get more up-tempo and the intensity of the competition elevated to new heights. The practice became a whole hell of a lot more spirited quickly and never let up all day!
- DT Kellen Heard broke through the line to get a simulated tackle on Darren McFadden
- DHB beat the defense for another big gain for a would-be touchdown from Jason Campbell. DHB beat his man so badly, that Louis Murphy and Tony Stewart ran down the field to celebrate with him in the endzone. High fives and jumping chest thumps a plenty!
- DHB again continuing to beat the defense; this time with intermediate pass catches.
- At this point, A LOT of chattering and sh*t talking can be heard from both the defense AND the OFFENSE!
- Although Charlie Frye and Kyle Boller had okay days, it was clear who was the #1 QB on this team. Campbell was finding ways to carve up the 1st team defense under Hue Jackson's play calling. Campbell and DHB are the new dynamic duo of Batman and Robin!
- Charlie Frye throws a near interception on his next set of reps.
- Now that Campbell is back in at QB, DHB lines up in front of Nnamdi. Nnamdi slips when trying to come back to the ball and DHB makes the catch and gives Nnamdi and outside spin move and runs into the endzone for a TD. Coach Hue Jackson shouting and taunting Nnamdi in an animated fashion. Nnamdi tried to ignore Hue, but Hue kept on jawing!
- DHB caught ANOTHER pass, this time a fade pass from Campbell, that fooled the defense for a touchdown.
- As the defense lined up for the next play, Coach's Assistant Kevin Ross was yelling to his defense to "Make a play. Somebody...make a damn play." Hue Jackson, clear on the other side of the field yelled back, "THEY CAN'T!!!...THEY CAN'T!!!!"
- The defense begins to slowly get their swagger back by making a few stops.
- Then, DHB made another pass against Nnamdi and gave him a KILLER spin move that drew some oohs from the spectators and media folk. Nnamdi, this time, was stating the reason why he got beat (as in he was in a different defensive set) because he knew he was going to hear it from Hue Jackson. But Jackson didn't care, "NO YOU DIDN'T!!!...NO YOU DIDN'T!!! Just riding Nnamdi hard!
- On the next play, Hue Jackson was yelling out, "I want YOU 22! I want YOU 22!" in reference to challenging CB Walter McFadden.
- TE Zach Miller made a SWEET catch in double coverage deep for a touchdown. It was one of those mid-air/pirouette/falling down pass catches that made Coach Hue scream emphatically, "There you go! There you go!"
- The offense at this pint officially now has a swagger!
- After the defense responds with a line penetration, Coach Hue starts yelling again, "Don't take that sh*t! directed at his linemen
- DHB just keeps on making plays with defenders on him. He just made a catch on Stanford Routt who initially on him, but DHB is finding ways to gain separation.
- DHB catches back to back catches on Routt. DHB is now officially unstoppable.
- DHB with a nice intermediate crossing pattern catch to the sidelines. SWEET!
- WR Louis Murphy is back and is in very good form and is making sharper cuts instead of rounding his routes. He and DHB are proving to be too much for the defense today.
- The only fight of the day came when DT Desmond Bryant shoved Center Chris Morris in the back. The two jousted a minute, then they sort of broke it up...that is until Guard Brandon Rodd came in and began to take shots at Bryant. Rodd and Bryant then went to the ground as they both tried their wannabe UFC ground and pound games. Nothing really connected and was broken up before someone got hurt.
- Stanford Routt breaks up a pass against Jonathan Holland
- On the next play, Nnamdi moves over to cover DHB. Coach Hue now begins to yell at Nnamdi, "You don't want this!" The play then goes away from DHB.
- The defense swallows a run by Bush after Coach Hue killed the previous play when FB Luke Lawton lined up on the wrong side of the backfield. Hue was letting Lawton have it!
- After that failed run attempt, Coach Hue began yelling at his offense, "We gone run the ball EVERY DOWN! and kept on repeating it. Sure enough, the offense ran the ball every down.
- RB Rock Cartwright breaks the defense off with a sweet outside run.
- Next, McFadden breaks off a nice off tackle run for big yardage.
- On the last play of the day, the offense decided to throw the ball. Again, it was another Campbell DHB connection/completion.
For the record. DHB DID NOT DROP A SINGLE PASS TODAY! And my favorite coach thus far is Hue Jackson. No wonder why the players like him so much.
