  • Wolfpack Get a Tiger

In what at least one IFL owner called, "the worst trade ever...", Arizona traded up two spots in the draft to get Clemson Tiger QB, Eugene Harper at #2 overall. The trade cost the Wolfpack their 1st and 2nd round picks next year. When asked about the trade, Argot said, "We may never be in this place again to be able to draft a franchise QB. Each year we try to find a QB in the middle to late 1st round, and we haven't been successful. In this league, if you don't have a QB, you don't have anything." Argot admits that defense has been a priority over the course of his tenure, but the only good years were when Collela, or May was the QB. Last year, the Wolfpack selected QB, Ray Keith in the first round, #17 overall. Keith started 4 games and had 10 interceptions. Keith didn't seem to make the transition well and was outperformed by undrafted rookie Mark Gerhardt. First year coach, Nolan Lawson will probably forever be linked to Harper and the two will need to find success with each other.

In other news, the Wolfpack, drafted Fan Favorite "Techno Bob Hagood" in the 3rd round. Hagood was targeted to the Mack Linebacker for the 43 Over defense that Ricky Stimson runs and Coach Lawson favors. Techno Bob had a great career at Central Michigan and interviewed well with the Wolfpack. In the 4th round, Arizona selected DE, Noah Bishop out of Kansas. Bishop will be moved inside to the 1 gap, where he will be a good fit in Stimson scheme. University of California Guard, Seth Langford, was chosen in the 5th round to provide Offensive line depth. The Wolfpack then went with Run stopper, Karl Fulcher, from Miami and Pass rushing specialist Reginald Fisk in the 6th and 7th rounds.

After placing the franchise tag on Jeremiah Beyer, who has moved to the SAM linebacker position, the Wolfpack lost DT Willie Everett to Free Agency. In a coup, though, Arizona made an offer to stand out cornerback Levon Reese. The Wolfpack struggled in the secondary and hope that Reese will provide more support.

Finally, the Wolfpack welcomed back Lorenzo "Clubber" Lang. Lang was a cap casualty five years ago, but fans were excited to see him back. There was a hope that he would be mentoring a draft pick this year, but it looks like Arizona will turn to undrafted rookies to fill that position.

Wow, that's quite a jump, from the outside to 1 tech. It is not that uncommon to see 3 tech transition to DE, but rarely a DE to a 3 tech much less a 1 tech.
